Uber the taxi company which just launched in Uganda will be offering free phones to all the drivers that sign up to provide its service. This is going to be done through a partnership the company has formed with Vodafone.
Drivers will be able to pay for the phones every month. You cannot access uber if you don’t have a smartphone and smartphone penetration is still low in Uganda.
This partnership will go alongway in ensuring the company is able to have as many drivers as possible signing up to its service. Uber also plans to start providing car loans through partnerships with local banks and car dealerships so that drivers can be able to aquire their own cars.
The company’s revenue share is capped at 25% for Uber and 75% for the driver
