When Pioneer Buses were introduced a few years ago, Taxi operators were not happy with them and they thought they would kick them out of business. The fight between Taxi operators and Pioneer buses was short-lived after they found out that the Buses were licensed to operate in Kampala and the neighboring areas. Since then, Pioneer Buses and Taxis have been peacefully in operation.
Recently, Motor Tricycle joined the Ugandans means of transport but it didn’t go well with Taxi Operators. For long now the talk of the city has been the banning of the tricycle operations in form of commercial public transport means in the city. This influenced tricycle operators to engage in endless fights with taxi operators in Nateete and Kabuusu.
It turns out that Taxi Operators this time win the battle because according to Kampala Minister Hon Beti Kamya, by law , tricycles are not licensed to carry passengers and neither are their operations allowed to operate in the city center . Kamya who said thi morning while addressing the Press said that if they are to operate in the city, they will only carry sodas and meat among others.
She also clarified that the matter is a police sanction and that the main reason as to why she made the call was because the tricycle operators approached her office for help and asked police to reign in only to help.
