Members of parliament who were given medals yesterday, among these were those who have served as Members of Parliament ever since 1962 when Uganda got it’s Independence. As the ceremony came to an end, no one wanted to leave the house as they demanded for transport refund from the President.
Transport refund was initially not accounted for but when all the 1162 MPs asked for their transport refund from the president, he didn’t hesitate but gave each Mp Sh500,000.
“About the welfare of the lawmakers, the government will discuss the matter and find a mechanism of helping former mps who are not catered for by the current parliamentary pension scheme “President Museveni said. Adding that, “we will work on the well fare of the former Mps and their descendants. However when I say descendants do not bring 30 people, what we are saying is that we shall give something to the former leaders and its up to them and their families to share the money”.
