Which artiste can come from what we literally call exile to come and say he/she is having her concert in the next few months at Serena Hotel and everyone is paying shs100,000 Well, Irene Namubiru just did and she managed to get away with it. When we talk exile, we don’t mean she was out of the country for many years but she was lost in the music scene although releasing just a few songs.
Namubiru proved she is still a big brand in the Uganda music Industry last evening (Friday December 23) at Serena Hotel’s Victoria Hall. This was during her One Night Only VIP concert which was not much anticipated perhaps because many thought she put up the concert at the wrong time of the year because people are travelling or preparing for Christmas. The other reason also being that she was lost in the Industry and instead of charging Shs50,000 and Shs20,000 somewhere at Freedom City or Kati Kati.
Little did they know that her absence in the music Industry created a huge demand for her fans who had longed to see her on stage. Her fans came in big numbers to be part of the concert that kicked off at 7pm with a cocktail just outside Victoria Hall courtesy of Bell Lager who were main sponsors of the show.
She stepped on stage at around 9pm and performed for three different sessions with the band and dancers not disappointing her because they were moving on the same pace with Fenon Records providing perfect sound and lighting.
She performed songs like Birowoozo, Nkuweeki, Nabulo, Zikizawo, Essimu Yekilo and Simbalala among others. The show which got the fans on their feet dancing and singing along to the singers’ songs ended a few minutes past midnight.
Other performers of the night included Keneth Mugabi, Dr Hilderman and Myco Ouma.
