When announced that Dj Diplo was coming to Uganda, many didn’t care much because the name Diplo perhaps didn’t ring a bell to many Ugandans. This was after they got to know he is the DJ behind songs like Lean On and Bumaye when they started counting down days to the D-day.
Diplo’s show dubbed Diplo live in Kampala came to pass yesterday (Friday) at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala. DJ Diplo who is a record producer, rapper singer and a songwriter was performing in Uganda for the first time and he decided to deliver his best like a midwife.
Thomas Wesley Pentz better known as Diplo came on stage at a few minutes to midnight, he showed up standing on the table where his turntable was placed. Together with his hypeman, they started the show with some techno beats with no lyrics.
As drinks were flowing on the house courtesy of Club, the official partners of the show, Diplo played music for one and a half hours nonstop showing his versatility. He played Hip-Hop, RnB and dancehall chipping in a bit of Ugandan songs like Amasanyalaze Negagenda, Tubayo, Jubilation and MunaKampala which made Ugandans super proud.
To shut it down, Diplo played a song that Major Lazer specifically did for Ugandans, it was a song in Tekno’s Pana beat but with lyrics in Luganda. In the lyrics were words like Matooke and Boda-Boda.
The show organized by Talent Africa and sponsored by Club Beer ended at 1:30pm with the crowd which was full of both the Ugandans and the foreigners leaving at leisure.
