Buganda Kindgom’s Longest serving Prime minister Jehoash Mayanja Nkangi passes on

Buganda Kingdom’s Longest Prime Minister Jehoash Mayanja Nkangi has passed on.

The 86 year old passed on at Nakasero hospital. 


He was prime minister on the day Kingdoms were abolished by Prime Minister Milton Obote, and held onto the post all throughout the Kingdom’s turbulent times.
He also served in many high profile positions in the Uganda government as Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

An accomplished lawyer, Nkangi attended Kabungo Primary School in Buddu County, Buddo Kings College, Makerere University and later Oxford University in England.

He was a close friend of Kabaka Edward Muteesa whom he served as a Prime Minister.

At the moment, said Josephine, “everything is being done to manage the situation. Everything humanly possible. He is generally stable and pain free.”

The public has since been urged to respect Nkangi’s privacy.

“As a family we appreciate the fact that daddy belongs to the nation, not just to us. We know that many would like to see him however, it is critical that he rests so his strength can be renewed,” said Josephine.

“We ask that everybody respects his dignity
